Afternoon Vent

Supposedly the constantly lampooned by "The Simpsons" News Corp./FOX head honcho Rupert Murdoch is all but endorsing Barack Obama for President. Claiming he believes that Senator Obama will win in a landslide due to the fact that so many Americans are disenfranchised by the current administration(the one they re-elected) and that they will not vote for Senator John McCain because he's been around too long and made too many compromises in his political career. This all has a stench of race-baiting if you ask me. We now have these right wingers that are trying make it seem like such a lock that Obama(who has still not won his party's nomination) is going to be the next President so it will scare up as many racist voters as possible to flood the polls and keep him out of the office.

Moving on to Sports: The Spurs are in a bind. Game 5 tonight in L.A. I'll be watching the season finale of "LOST" and flipping over to the game during commercials. Sometimes they play better when I'm not watching so let's hope for the best. Meanwhile over in Paris the French Open is rolling along. Three-time champ Gustavo "Guuga" Kuerten lost in the first round and announced his retirement immediately afterward. When he burst onto the tennis scene to first win at Roland Garros in 1997 I was in my heyday of high school varsity tennis playing and I became a big fan of his flamboyant style and high energy but finesse game. He will be missed. America's only real hope of winning on the clay, James Blake, breezed through the first round but lost in the second without much fanfare. I really wish America would take up the cause of getting more clay courts, so our players both professionally and recreational can experience the unique surface. Over on the women's side Serena looks tough and unstoppable. "My Maria" Sharapova has struggled early but I think she has decent draw, Ana Ivanovic is also looking strong.

I was able to catch "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" this weekend and it was a lot of fun. I really, really enjoyed it. Worth the wait. Sure there were little flaws but the overall experience was great. The action, the story, the characters(new & old), the inside jokes. I just ate it up. Compares with the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie on the "made me feel like a giddy little boy again" scale. This is already after a spectacular start to the summer movie season with the kick-ass "Iron Man".

Shouldn't I be working?

Well here we are again. I don't really keep the blog or profile on myspace updated very often so I decided to finally lauch a new blog with the Google folks. Only fitting considering my nickname "The Human Google" which I have received here at work.

I've been very active with my non-recreational writing(i.e. screenplays, stage plays, etc..) lately but it helps when I do more of this free association journaling - is that a word? I always did very well in my creative writing class in high school because we had to start everyday with 15 minutes of just total stream of consciousness writing. Although I will try to have some substanitive posts and not just random entries about daily life, pet peeves and pop culture punditry.

So what's going on this weekend? It's Memorial Day, so I'm looking forward to missing a day of work. No plans otherwise except to catch "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Then I'm sure I'll wind-up at some bar-b-que, always do.

The weather has already gone from nice Springtime to the Dog Days of Summer in a snap. Pushing 100 degrees and not dipping below a high 95 most days. Allergies are kind of kicking my behind this week as well, but I don't feel bad, just got the gunk and water, red eyes that makes me look perpetually stoned, which would be far more fun than having allergies.

OK. Lunch time is approaching so I will close out this first post with an Oscar Wilde quote - "The basis of optimism is sheer terror."
